aha
I got a lot from this class. I might not of learned the terms as well as I would of like. But I did learn first hand many of the means of media. For example, before this class I never had a blog. I thought it was for people who had way too much time on their hands. But now I know blogs are for many different types of people and can be very professional. I am also going to have a blog for all my articles for review. I also liked the usage of the internet for many of the tests. Those really showed how useful the internet can be and how to go about it. I also like many sites that we saw for networking in the journalism field. This can be helpful for when it’s time to find a job. I REALLY liked the site for bibliography help. Overall I like the class and got a lot out of it.

ICC finance chair resigns

The I.C.C. stands for De Anza's Inter Club Council. This organization is for maintaining current clubs and also making new ones. It may sound like a boring organization to be apart of, and if one thought that they would be wrong. This council see’s over 50 clubs and counting. They also run their own events that run from the fall dance on Nov. 20th all the way to the spring carnival on May 13th, even karaoke on Jan. 14th April 15th and Oct. 4th. The council contains prior and current student as well as others. All of which are well suited for the job. Becoming an officer is as easy as running for election in the Spring Quarter.
I.C.C. Chair of Finance.
mass communication...Books
This assignment wasn't very hard for me beause I have probally read 25 whole books in my life. So I didn't have trouble picking one.
- The first one would have t be the Bible. This is my first choice not just because I'm christan, but also because this book is when I started to analize what I was reading. It also made me question what I was being taught and if and what I beleive of it.
- The second book or books would have to be the Goosebumbs. (Which now is probally going to keep me up cause they have videos...yay!) This was an important element because it interested me at a young age to read, which I hated doing. It also used the series to ti kids' interest in. It actually might have been the first to do that, but don't yell at me if I' wrong.
- The third would have to be The Chronicles of Narnia. Besides from being some awsome books, this series was important to me because my mother would read them to me before I went to sleep. This is probally the reason now that I have such vivid and plotful dreams, which I love and contributes to a lot of my story ideas. It probally contributes to my creative mind as well.

Media Impact
In society today, there are very mixed feeling about video games and using violence in video games to help sells. I took a specific look at Grand Theif Auto #4. My boyfriend, Samaad, owns this game and plays it frequently. He beleives it has some impact but does not pay attention to how it effects him. The media uses violence to add an element of entertainment in video games. Some say this can cause desensitization to violence in everyday life and even cause modeling of the pretent violence to real violence. School bombing and murders are used as examples of this kind of modeling.
But is it the games fault for this insanity? That is the main opposing arguement. Many of the persons that cause these horrible acts had already been diagnosed with mental disorders and should have been monitered more carefully before these crimes were committed.
It is very hard to do reseach on how this effects it's user because the user are mostly younger and do not participate in the laboratory experiments or even survey methods. So one does not see the effects untill something bad happens and there are always excuses for that.
So for this, I took a personal look at Samaad's habbits while he plays these types of games. He is not diagnosed with any mental disorders and does not have a history of violence, that i know of... I noticed when he plays these games, he generally gets excited when he kills and often laughs at the death scenes. Further studying, the game often rewards killing with advancement of the next level and show comic elments in the death scences by elaberate showings of gore. So is it really his fault he reacts this way? I also noticed when he is in a bad mood, he will want to play these games to get his mind off his environment and also to release his anger. This van be taken as productive or really scary.
So I started to aply these habbits to his everyday life. When he got angry, he did not seal a car or run anybody over, so the modeling element was not there (thank god). But we did run over a raccoon (on accident), and his first reaction was to laugh as mine was to cover my eyes. This disterbed me a little. He also said once, "Wouldn't it be cool to actually live in a world where you could just respone. I wonder what the world would be if that were possible?"
When I started this writing, I beleived it to be over-reacting mothers. But in concluesion, I believe that media does in fac have some impact on society. It may not cause modeling for the everyday gamer, but could easily cause this for someone with a loose grasp on humanity and normal ways of thinking. I also saw very clear ways in which the everyday gamers' mind set had changed. But as it is the right to be american, you have the right to choose to play it or not. So it all boils down to whether or not you decide to play.

Euphrat Museum of Art: De Anza’s Own Hidden Treasure
The Euphrat Museum also offers many different services, and not just for students. The Museum is open to all the public and has tours for children, seniors, and the disabled. If you call ahead, I bilingual tour can also be arranged. Anyone can also volunteer to be on the staff and be a part of the museum. “The responsibilities are shared evenly among the staff,” says Martha Carry, a volunteer formally from Washington State. She speaks very highly of her volunteer work with the museum, including the conversation. “The conversation is always about art, teachers, students, visitors, staff, that’s the conversation everyone’s having,” she says. This is ideal for the artists out there and also enhances the experience of the art. Meeting lots of students and connecting in art is just some of the benefits of volunteering for the museum or the Arts and Schools program. One can also display your own art work as a student in the annual spring student show. There are also many student pieces in the Come On Down section. The last showing was of the altars for the Day of the Dead.
The Exhibit featured right now is In Between: The Tension and Attraction of Difference. This exhibit is of artists a combination of tradition with new style in a language-oriented way. There are pieces with traditional medians, like Lucy Sargeant’s large portraits, and there are also pieces that use unique medians, like Sam Hernandez’s Homage and Dichos Y Bichos and Imin Yeh’s Good imports which use wood and everyday idea (includes a vacuum and a pain of sunglasses). There is also some photography with Abraham Minor’s pieces.
The museum is quit a great space to combine the community with the De Anza students on the common grounds of art. The programs they offer are incredible and the resources there are very helpful. Stop by in-between classes or on a day off. It will be worth the time. The Museum is open Monday-Thursday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For any questions of the latest exhibit information, go to http://www.deanza.edu/euphrat/ or call (408)864-8836.
media autobio- journ 2 class
- My main surce of media is the internet. I use websites such as www.myspace.com and www.facebook.com to keep in touch with my family and friends far away. I also use reseach engines such as http://www.bing.com/ and www.google.com to do reseach for school assignments and some everyday questions such as local movie times.
- My next top media source is recordings. I love music and love to listen to it. I usually download music off the internet directly to my mp3 player, but i also like to get cds. I have an anxiety disorder and I use Music to balance my nerves sometimes.
- The next on mylist is magazines. I have around thirteen subscriptions that range from Redbook to Readymade. I use magazines to give me ideas on fastion or new topics in photography and interior design.
- Then would have to be Movies. I don't really watch TV (mostly because I don"t have cable), and so I use movies as my main source for intertainment. I also go to the movies with my boyfriend for our date-night. The magic of the movies always has kept my interested, while TV is easily just a luxury I can live without.
- Then cmes the Newpaper. I get the Newpaper every Sunday and look through it. I like to use the cupons availible and also look through the sales. I also used the Newspaper as a resource to find a job when I moved here, a job whe my boyfriend moved here, and a place to rent when we decided to live together.
- With books, it's a love/hate relationship we have going. I love to read interesting books in my spare time, but i have no spare time because I'm too busy reading books I don't find interesting for school.
I plan on being a photojournalist major. I want to get two minors, in photography and interior design, and a masters in Journalism. I plan on tranfering into a four-year school, I just don't know which one yet. My boyfriend is about to open an office for his job and we don't know where that might be yet. But is won't happen until the end of this quarter.
